Opportunity: Corporate Director of Internal Audit
The Corporate Director of Internal Audit leads the company’s internal audit, financial controls, and governance function across a multi-brand portfolio of over 200 assets. Reporting to the CFO, the Director is responsible for how internal control oversight, certification, and risk management are structured and prioritized across the company. The role works closely with Corporate Accounting, Corporate Shared Services, Treasury, senior finance and operations leadership, and property teams to improve the control environment, the accuracy of reporting, and day-to-day consistency across the portfolio.
This is a senior, highly visible role. The Director sets financial-controls and governance policy for the company and is the person who explains to the executive team, ownership groups, and the audit committee where the real financial, operational, and compliance risks sit and what should be done about them. The Director also runs the audit and controls organization: hiring and developing the team, setting the standards other groups are expected to meet, and holding property and corporate teams to them. The role requires travel and regular in-person time at the Philadelphia, PA and Camp Hill, PA corporate offices as well as hotels.
Your Focus
- Own the direction and multi-year plan for the Internal Audit, Financial Controls, and Governance function across roughly 200+ properties, including how the team is structured and how work gets prioritized.
- Advise the CFO and other senior executives on the company’s most significant financial, operational, and compliance exposures, and represent the function to ownership groups and the audit committee.
- Lead the annual risk assessment and audit plan, concentrating coverage on the areas of greatest risk to the business and to ownership.
- Oversee an audit program that produces more than 3,000 findings a year with over 80% remediation, and use analytics and automation to work more efficiently and catch fraud earlier.
- Set control policy and design the supporting frameworks, including certification and month-end close processes, and put the teams and oversight in place to keep them running.
- Report audit results, risk trends, and remediation progress to executive leadership, ownership, and the audit committee each quarter and at year end.
- Work with Corporate Accounting and Shared Services, regional finance teams, and property Directors of Finance to tighten month-end close, balance sheet integrity, and the accuracy of ownership reporting.
- Run the property review program and the recurring finance and operations forums that keep practices consistent across the portfolio, expand audit coverage, and turn SOPs into standards that people follow.
- Manage recurring reporting, including monthly financial statement completion and certification, balance sheet scorecards, and self-assessments that close control gaps.
- Find and fix financial exposure, and put lasting controls in place so the same issues do not come back.
- Support improvements to financial systems and processes across ERP, PMS, and reporting platforms, including standards transitions such as USALI, and lead the related training, onboarding, and consistent rollout across properties.
- Build and lead a geographically dispersed team, and develop Directors of Finance and audit leaders into stronger business partners.
